Wisconsin 8-4-2023

Really nice day today and we are feeling back to normal! Yeah! Drove to Appleton to explore The Hearthstone Historic House and Museum. Saw a pretty lake on the way.

House was built by Henry J. Rogers who made his money in silver mines in Colorado during the demand of the civil war then he started a bank in Wyoming just ahead of the railroad expansion then paper mills in Appleton using the Wolf River for power and processing. He was always ahead of the curve and made fortunes. This house is the only one in the nation lit by hydro electric power and the only one still standing from the dawn of electrical power. All lite fixtures are original. 9 fireplaces each surrounded by tiles which tell a story. Gramophone still works. Ennunceator in kitchen was invented here and was the way family called servants. 9-1/2' doors in entryway. Very cool!
