OMG what an impressive place! So glad we visited. We actually had to pass security to be able to go on campus. A little intimidating. Lol.
America patriots realized the strategic importance of the prominant plateau on the west bank of the Hudson. In 1778 Thaddeus Kosciuszko designed the fortifications for West Point. Continental soldiers constructed forts, gun batteries, redoubts and installed a 65 ton iron chain across the Hudson to block British invasions. Fortress West Point was never captured by the British despite Major Benedict Arnolds' treacherous attempt to turn over the garrison to the British in 1780. West Point is the oldest continuously occupied regular army post in the US. Over 2 million visitors from around the world annually.
"Duty, Honor, Country". Gives me chills.
Finally got the overlook pictures of the
Hudson.
