Traveled today to Manassas where the Battle of Bull Run I and 2 took place. Nice visitor center and an informative film. First battle was in July 1861 and actually had people out spectating. They thought this would be the only clash of the war. Amazing! Union army had signed up for 90 day stint and both armies were very green. Confederate victory. Stonewall Jackson influenced the outcome. 900 dead. 2nd battle in August 1862. Lee and Longstreet outmanuvered Pope and the union army was again defeated. 3300 dead. Too hot to really walk the battlefields.
