Had to go to Hanover this am to pay Home Depot bill so we decided to tour the Utz factory. Their potatoes chips are the best! Founded in 1921 by Bill and Salie Utz in their home. Grandpa originally sold chips at farmers markets in Baltimore and York. First delivery truck purchased 1930. They built a plant behind their home in 1931. First automatic chip cooker installed in 1936. Carlisle Street plant built in 1949. 80 delivery trucks. In 20 years company increased 4x. Became a public company in 2020. Rice and Lissette families (founding family) remain largest shareholders.

5 lines produce 13,000 lbs of finished potatoes chips per hour. Potatoes are peeled, washed and sliced then rinsed to remove starch. Starch is collected and sent to recyclers. Final wa

stewater is cleaned and sent to treatment plant. Potatoes peelings are shipped to local farmers for feed. quite the impressive operation. They employ 2500 local workers.

In 2018 Utz becomes the "Official Salty Snack" of major league baseball.
