Drove down to Burleigh Manor this am. Some idiot (lol,me) had Amazon delivered there. Always good to see Lisa and Larry.
Visited the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick on the way back. Modern hospital system was created during this time due to the need for long term care for soldiers. Forced both armies to construct pavillion style hospitals. 95% of operations during the war involved anesthesia (good to know). It is estimated that 700,000 died during the war and 2/3rds was due to disease. Horses and mules were also vital as it took 6 horses to move 1 canon. Many natural occuring herbs were used to treat various ailments-gonger, scullcap, horseradish, pinkroot, black cohash, mayapple, sassafras, pomegranate. I found that fascinating as im always researching foraging.
