Happy Birthday Ashlynn!!!!
Today we visited Concord, Lexington and Arlington. Started at the North Bridge but actually Lexington was first. British landed in Boston and began to march to Concord where they heard munitions were stored. Paul Revere, Samuel Prescott and William Dawes left Boston at midnight to warn the surrounding countryside and patriots that the British were coming. On their way to Concord the British encountered patriots on the Lexington Greene at 5am. Several patriots killed. British moved on to Concord and encountered patriots at the North Bridge at 9:30. A shot was fired by British which led to a volley from the patriots. "Shot heard round the World". 2 patriots dead, 3 Brits dead. British retreated back to Boston. Battle road because patriots were on both sides of the British column incessantly firing. Once back in Boston the Brits were trapped. Patriots surrounded the city for the next year gaining in size and strength. Brits evacuated Boston in March 1776. 2nd continental congress convened and issued Declaration of Independence in July 1776. Brits surrendered 2 years later.
Museum at Concord hilighted Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau as both lived in this area, were very good friends and are buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetary.
Pics of cool looking houses in the area.
Dinner with the Elks.
