Today we visited the Plimoth Patuxet Historic Museum and Village. Lots of walking but so worth it. Separtists fled England to America on the Mayflower in 1620. The Mayflower Compact was signed 11-11-1620 and laid the foundation for our civil government. We saw a pottery maker and learned about the wool, flax, hemp and silk the weavers turned into fabric. The colonists had to repay investors who financed the voyage and provided support for several years. Beaver pelts were found to be the most profitable thing to be had in America. They were obtained in trade with indigenous peoples. The fort was built in 1623 with canons from the Mayflower upstairs. First house was occupi
ed by Myles Standish. We also saw canoe making and cooking and were entertained by chipmunks. Revolutionary ideas started here. Very cool day!
