Today we visited Antitem which was a civil war battle well before Gettysburg. Fought on 9-17-1862, estimated 100,000 soldiers. The federal forces were able to repella confederate invasion of Maryland and gave Lincoln the fuel to issue a preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. The southern states had 100 days to rejoin the Union. 500 canons, 12 hrs of fighting with 22,720 casualties. It was the bloodiest day in American history.

When the south did not return to the union by Jan.1, 1863 the Proclamation went into affect, declaring free all enslaved people.

My finished tie dye!
