Today we traveled to Washington to tour the Robert Toombs house. He was born in 1810. Became a lawyer, statesman and Mayor. House was built 1797 and Toombs bought in 1837 with 1800 acres. He owned 65 slaves. Toombs is famous for his speech during the Georgia secession convention "Defend yourselves; The enemy is at your door".
The drywell pictured was 18'deep and maintained a constant 52 to 56 degrees. Food was lowered by ropes to the shelves. Milk, eggs, butter, fruit, veggies.
Also pictured is the town square and fountain and some other cool houses. Had lunch at a local bistro.
