Finally got our butt's moving and visited Fredericksburg today. Started at the museum checking out the relics. Pictured are an ammunition box, grinding stone, weaponry and a painting of the town before the battle. Virginia sold more enslaved people to the deep south than any other state and Fredericksburg was a large part. The union army arrived in the spring of 1862. The towns people hated the Yankees. 10,000 slaves sought freedom with the union army. Confederate army arrived in November. Lee had the high ground and the stone wall
pictured as protection. Ugly battle. Confederate victory. Beginning of 18 month ordeal of battles in this area. Chancellorsville, Wilderness, Spotsylvania. Learned a bunch today.
