Today we toured the Georgias Old Governors Mansion in Milledgeville. Very interesting when you are able to get inside these old buildings. Built 1836-1839. 8 governors lived here. Became a museum in 1970 and was restored to how it looked originally. Slave work areas down below family living areas. Foyer floor is free hand painted canvas. Grand salon was the man cave and the ladies had their sitting room. Sherman slept here 11-23-1864 but left the mansion unscathed. Rotunda is 24 carat gold leaf and was used as a waiting area for visitors. It's purpose was to intimidate.
